KC Drive-In Concerts
As venues continue to stay closed in order to combat the spread of Covid-19, live music as we know it has taken a back seat, often relegated to alternative platforms like live-streaming or back porch neighborhood concerts. However, across Europe and America, a new type of venue is emerging - the Drive-In Concert.
Hosted by Plexpod Westport Commons, in collaboration with Live Jazz KC and Jackie Myers, Kansas City Drive-In Concerts has been designed with safety in mind. Our mission is to create a safe environment and to bring live music back to Kansas City. Masks will be required for our shows and social distancing measures will be observed. Visit www.kcdriveinconcerts.com for a complete list of events and guidelines.
TRIBUTE TO THE JAZZ MESSENGERS
KC Drive-In Concert: 10/03/20 Plexpod Westport Commons
“Jazz washes away the dust of everyday life.” The inimitable spirit and philosophy of legendary drummer and bandleader Art Blakey has never rang so clear and true as it does in 2020. Blakey’s historic group, The Jazz Messengers, carried the torch for nearly 40 years from bebop through hard bop right up to contemporary jazz stylings. His group showcased the development and fire of the young lions, establishing the careers of luminaries such as Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis and Bobby Watson. Blakey’s unrelenting drive pushed these youngsters through his “jazz graduate school,” until releasing them to take the message of jazz their own creative direction. Please join our KCJO6 tribute on October 3rd at at 6:00pm.
Please double-check the start time of each performance, since they are not all the same!
KC Drive-In Concerts will take place in the upper parking lot at Plexpod Westport Commons (where the entrance to Canteen Chow is located).
